  • Description

    cespitose. Pileus 2-5 cm broad, ±plane to very slightly depressed on the disc, dry, white, developing yellow and/or cinnamon brown stains with age; disc occupied with a superficial, pale brownish pink volval remnant with pinkish brown, flattened areolate patches; margin short sulcate. Flesh white, tough, with penetrating and strong fungal odor, mild taste. Lamellae decurrent, close, broad, white, then yellow (from edge toward flesh), with serrate to wavy or eroded margins. Stipe mostly central to rarely eccentric, 2-5 cm long, 5-10 mm broad, ±equal or slightly broader toward base, terete or rarely flattened and sometimes branched, dry, white, with cinnamon brown squamules throughout length, denser and more heavily pigmented toward the base; interior white, unchanging, tough.
