Type: Brazil. Minas Gerais: prope Mariana. Oreas. Martius 20 (syntypes: BR, M).

Description: Trees up to 5 m tall; young branches rounded and slightly flattened, without or just tiny interpetiolar ridges, densely covered by a lanose, ferruginous, sessille-stellate to stipitate-stellate trichomes of long arms. Leaves discolorous; petioles 1.5-4.5 cm; blades 6-16 x 3.5-9 cm, ovate-elliptic, apex acute to acuminate, base cordulate, margin entire to slightly serrulate, chartaceous, longitudinal nerves 3, with an additional, marginal pair, basal, abaxial surface with dense, lanose, ferrugineous, indument consisting of sessile-stellate to dendritic trichomes of long arms, ca. 0.3 mm diam. Panicles 8-12 x 6-11 cm, glomerulate, usually the glomerules so close to each other that looks like a spiguete, terminal, densely covered by a lanose, ferruginous indument consisted of sessile-stellate to dendritic trichomes, ca. 0.3 mm diam.; bracts and bracteoles lanceolate, up to 1.4 mm long, caducous. Flowers 4 (5)-merous. Hypanthium 1.3 mm long, campanulate, inner surface glabrous, outer densely covered by a lanose, ferruginous indument consisted of sessile-stellate to dendritic trichomes of long arms, ca. 0.3 mm diam., sometimes glabrescent at the base; torus glabrous. Calyx lobate, caducous in fruit, inner surface glabrous, outer moderately covered by trichomes similar to the ones on the hypanthium; tube 0.4 mm long, inner lobes triangular, 0.1 mm long, outer teeth subulate. Petals 1.9-2 x 1 mm. Stamens white, slightly dimorphic; filaments 2-2.5 mm long, glabrous; connectives up to 0.7 mm prolonged below the thecae, unappendaged; anthers 1-1.2 mm long, oblong, with a single terminal, ventrally displaced, moderate pore, ca. 0.2 mm diam. Ovary 0.7 mm long, 1/2 adherent to the hypanthium, 2-3-locular, apex glabrous; style 4.2 mm long, straight to slightly curved, punctiform, glabrous. Fruits up to 2.7 x 2.5, orange, 2-3 seeds.

Habitat and Distribution: Dry forests at Cerrado, at elevations from 1200 to 1400m, mainly in the state of Minas Gerais, but with reports for São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
