  • Description

Description: Pileus 3 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, glutinous-viscid, becoming tufted areolate under gluten, bright cinnamon brown, with slight sterile projecting margin. Flesh white, unchanging, with mild odor and taste. Tubes vinaceous pink, staining not apparent, adnexed to deeply adnexed. Stipe 6-7.5 cm long, 5-6 mm broad, equal, white above, pale cinnamon brown below, alveolate lacunose, becoming viscid toward base, white at base with white rhizomorphs, with interior white, unchanging, becoming hollow. [Based on R.E. Halling 9736]

Ectomycorrhiza: Apparently restricted to Nothofagus and Leptospermum in New Zealand.

Habitat and Distribution: Temperate forests of New Zealand.

Commentary: Considered distinct by Wolfe (1979). Similar spore morphology to A. lacunosus, but preliminary molecular phylogeny infers two separate species.
