Mun. de Ibirataia, 12 km NW of Ibirataia on connecting
road with BR-101. Elev. 350-UOQm. Small, delicate bam-
boo, the dominant plant in forest on higher parts of
hill. Culms solid, flexible, thin, ca. 0.5 cm in diam.
(in some old culms to 2 cm at the base) with ring of
air canals near the periphery, up to 13 m high, clim-
bing and leaning over vegetation. Culm leaf: sheath
persistent with stiff brown hairs at base; blade
usually concave, horizontal or' reflexed, caducous.
Branching intravaginal, one branch dominant with a
cluster of secondary branches at the base. Foliage
does not wilt quickly after culm is severed.
