    Abundant bamboo forming the dominant understory vegetation, clumps of 15-30 culms close together, ca. 1 cm diam., climbing into trees to ca. 13 m, solid with an outer ring of air canals. [See label for complete description]. Phenology of specimen: Sterile.

Municipio Itacaré: 5 km s.w. of Itacare and 25 km e. of
Taboquinhas. Forest of tall trees, semi-open, with thick
layer of leafmold and good mixture of herbaceous plants
such as sedges, Bambusoideae, Marantaceae. Elev. 100m.
Abundant bamboo forming the dominant understory vegetation,
clumps of 15-30 culms close together, ca. 1 cm diam.,
climbing into trees to ca. 13m, solid with an outer ring of
air canals. Culm leaves: sheath persistent, falling only
when pushed away by developing branches, stramineous on
outer surface, reddish on inner; blade horizontal, becoming
reflexed-curved. Foliage blades bright green above, bluish-
green below. Largest species of Atractantha I have seen.
