    [Data from an additional label associated with the sheet:] Elmer's field notes. Low suberect and suffrutescent; stem 1 to 3 feet high, sparingly branched, less than ½ inch thick, terete, crooked, spinescent; branches ascending, from the middle or from above or from below it, otherwise similar to the stems but with fewer spines or nearly smooth; whitish wood tough, with a very large pith; bark greenish; leaves membranous, much paler green beneath, horizontal or descending, almost flat; inflorescence suberect, the stalks and calyx pale green, corolla deep azure blue, the style white and bearing a brown stigma, anthers aurantiaceous, ovary greenish white; berries 3/8 inch in diameter, shiny, turning tomatoe yellow or yellowish red when mature. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fertile, Fruit.
