Habitat
Weedy, brushy areas, very flat, the soil of fine sand and silt.

Description
Shrub 3 m. tall, strongly spiny from the 8 cm. diameter base to the new growth. No flowers seen. Fruit abundant, mostly hanging, green and yellow-green (apparently ripe), globose but slightly quadrangular in cross section, the largest are 4.4 x 4.8 cm. in diameter, the rind firm but soft and juicy inside. Fruiting calyx strongly swollen at base. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
