In xeric flat, apparently rather recently flooded, heavily grazed, dominant plants Jatropha gossypiifolia, Acacia farnesiana, Cereus sp., Opuntia sp., Melocactus sp., etc. Common.

Yellowish green bush up to 1 m. tall, usually less; spines yellow, dark brown toward tips; fruit bright red. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
