Description
Massive palm to 25m tall. Trunk ca. 35-40cm dbh, ringed with leaf scars ca. 25 distant, internodes ashy grey when young. Crown very massive, of ca. 10 leaves, crownshaft 2m long, ca. 40cm diam, ashy grey and with some brown indumentum. Leaf immense, to 6m long; petiole very short. Leaflets ca. 200, very narrow, grouped and fanned, the whole leaf plumose; rachis ca. 15cm wide at the base; leaflets green. Inflorescence at stanminate anthesis. Prophyll ca. 30cm; peduncular bract ca. 65cm, beaked, flushed pale lavender, splitting abaxially; peduncle 15cm, rachis ca. 20cm, spread of inflorescence ca. 70cm; inflorescence branching to 2 orders, with ca. 18 first order braches; rachillae cream, scented of Sambucus nigra flowers. Young fruit green. Phenology of specimen: Sterile.
