Description
Robust tree palm reaching the canopy, to 25m or more tall; d.b.h 35cm, with obscure scars 10cm distant, bark finely fissured, brown distally to 15cm diam., with scares 6 cm apart, green by the brownshaft. Crownshaft bright green, c. 1.5x0.25, swollen; 8 massive leaves in crown. Leaf to 3m long; petiole 30cm, bright green glabrous, deeply channelled; rachis bright green; leaflets 135 on each side of the rachis, grouped in 3's-7's and displayed in different planes, the whole leaf plumose, the leaflets tending to droop 3/4 the way along their leangth; leaflets bright green, no visible wax. Inflorescence massive, infrafoliar, with a spread of c. 1.5m and leangth of 1m; peduncle to 20x6cm; rachis to 60cm; axes green, glabrous, c.10 first order branches; rachnillae rather robust, curving, to 35cm long, male flowers at anthesis pale green; stamens 6 cream. Fallen fruit with ruminate endosperm.
