Habitat
Gravel and rocky dry wash with arid slopes. With Trichocereus pasacana. Plants common in this habitat but S. palitans rare or absent.

Description
Always up to 12 stems, few if any upright, occasionally rooting at the nodes. Flowers pale violet. Fruit hanging, green, then yellow-green, then yellowish, then red, slightly 2-lobed. Some plants seen with white corollas; anthers yellow. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
