Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the restinga vegetation of Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Used Google Maps - Map and Earth Views to locate the restinga/beach area of the city of Barra da Tijuca. Used the Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool to measure from the beginning of the beach (at: -23.022486, -43.447271) to the farthest extent of the beach (at: -23.014448, -43.297503), then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along the restinga area nearest to the midpoint of the line; used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the restinga of Barra do Tijuca. Input coordinates, coordinate source (locality description), coordinate precision (.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84), linear extent (7750.0 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: River, stream, road, path).
