Description
Small tree, 90 cm in diameter in swollen part of bottle-shaped trunk, then narrowed below and with small buttresses at base, with a few spines on trunk; nearly leafless, with scattered flowers, was in full bloom a week ago. Flowers showy, with slight fra.

The New York Botanical Garden Plants of BOLIVIA Chorisia speciosa St. Hil. Depto. Santa Cruz, Prov. Ichilo, Buena Vista, cultivated on the main plaza. 17°27’S, 63°40’W. alt. 375 m. "toborochi" Small tree, 90 cm. in diameter in swollen part of bottle-shaped trunk, then narrowed below and with small buttresses at base, with a few spines on trunk; nearly leafless, with scattered flowers, was in full bloom a week ago. Flowers showy, with slight fragrance, slightly larger than those of no. 40575; petals slightly lighter pink than in no. 40575, the base within white with a few pink stripes, yellow at the base when first open, later brown, but not as brown as in no. 40575; filament column white with rosy tinge; anther head creamy, splitting open at the top; style white; stigma deep red. Fruit hanging, green, with tinge of red in the lower half, turbinate, the surface somewhat irregular, the 5 long lines becoming prominent and almost winged at the fruit base, with abundant gummy sap, turning muscilaginous in water.
