Bolivia. Santa Cruz. Andrés Ibáñez Prov. Along new highway from Santa Cruz to Abapó, 5 km S of Río Pejí bridge.

Habitat
Grassy roadside and edge of remnant of original subtropical semi-deciduous forest and northern limit of chaco forest. Common element, or at least very conspicuous at this time of the year in the original forest and in the remnants, mostly cleared for pasture nearby.

Description
Tree 18 m tall, with ventricose trunk, nearly 1 m in diameter at 4 m from ground; spines not apparent. Flowers abundant (the species in full bloom now), mostly on branches with most of the leaves fallen, seen visited by hummingbird, apparently odorless; calyx green, with yellowish tip, similar to that of Ceiba samauma; petals pink distally, white at base on outside, yellowish at base within, fading light tan; filaments white; anthers creamy.
