    Quercus oocarpa & Quercus sp. Gregarious. On soil.

  • Description

    Pileus 4-6 cm broad, convex, dry, appressed squamulose at first, becoming, areolate squamulose with erect ±pyramidal squamules on disc and suberect squamules toward margin, dull red (10B4), fading to a dull tan with age, with appendiculate veil remains at margin. Flesh white to pale yellow up to 2 cm thick, changing to blue when exposed, with pungent odor and mild taste. Tubes deeply depressed around stipe, up to 15 mm long, yellow (3A8) changing to blue when exposed, with pores concolorous and bluing, <= 1 mm broad. Stipe 6-15 cm long, 10-15 mm broad, ±equal to somewhat broader at base, concolorous with tubes at apex, with a red band below that, then white toward base, finely fibrillose above, fibrillose striate below, with interior white to pale yellow, cyanescent. Phenology of specimen: Basidiomata.
