  • Description

    Cultivated in the experimental plantation. Culms 20 m tall, 6-9 cm in diameter; basal internodes (23-) 30-38 cm long, green, covered with appressed golden-brown hairs for most of the internode length except toward the base; band of brown hairs 1-1.5 cm wide below the node, hairs darker brown, band above the node ca. 1 cm wide, the hairs lighter brown; many root primordia in the nodal zone toward the base of the culm. Culm leaves abaxially with irritating brown hairs, except toward the base; blade small, at first erect, then reflexed at higher nodes. Branching begins mostly fairly high up on the culms; thorns absent. Phenology of specimen: Sterile.
