    Abundant in "mata litorânea", not very tall tree forest in sandy soil near the ocean.

  • Description

    Forming rather large but not dense clumps. Culms decumbent at base, then leaning or climbing over trees up to 12 m or more. Culms solid, flexible, cylindrical, ca. 1 cm diam., surface very smooth. Internodes ca 62-98 cm, rather long and naked at base of the plant without sheaths; branches starting above 4-5 m. Culm leaves falling rather easily after development of branches, which are intravaginal. Blade not developed, only a rudiment mucro present. Bracts and prophylla of buds not growing with them.
