  • Georeferencing Method

    Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the center of the Fazenda Lombardia, in Mun. Itapebí, Bahia. Using a paper map of the area (Superintendência do Desenvolvimento do Nordeste. "Potiragua" [Map]. Mapas da Região Nordeste do Brasil – 1:100,000. Convênio SUDENE – Governo do Estado da Bahia. SUDENE, Recife, PE, Brasil. 1977) located the Fazenda Lombardia, which is positioned ca. 9 km due N of the central district of Itapebí. Using Google Maps - Terrain View, and referencing the topographic features shown on the paper map, re-identified the location of Fazenda Lombardia (-14.801456, -39.118927). Using Google Maps - What's Here tool, found coordinates (final) for the apparent center of the Fazenda Lombardia. Because this locality is vague, and the boundaries of the Fazenda Lombardia are poorly defined, used Google Maps - Measure Distance tool to measure a straight line from the selected final coordinates at the center of the Fazenda Lombardi to the center of the nearest named place, the Fazenda Corrego do Cachorro (-15.862613, -39.521190: found by referencing the paper map in the same manner as described above for locating the Fazenda Lombardia), then dividing that distance by 2. Input linear extent (1220 m), coordinate precision (0.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84) and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Undefined area).
