Because the center of the nearest named place of similar locality type (smaller city, considering that true nearest named place is a village and may be under jurisdiction of Santarém), Alter do Chão, is farther from the city of Santarém than the linear extent of Santarém itself, followed Case B of the Near a Named Place method of the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide. Used the Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool to approximate the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the approximate geographic center of Alter do Chão (at: -2.510211, -54.948816), then halving this distance.
