Tonto National Forest, Seven Springs Picnic Site/ Campground along Cave Creek. N33.965532 W111.862857. Elev. 3379 ft. Common shrub growing to 2.5 ft. high on dry sunny hillsides and along road. Flowers reddish-orange and tubular. Leaves opposite. Bark shredding off in thin strips. Growing with Rhamnus crocea, Juniperus sp., Quercus sp., Asclepias asperula, and Echinocereus engelmannii.
