In pasture on gentle hill slope, in foil sun. Well-drained soil of aeolian Kalahari
sand. Native and common. Grassland with Eragrostis, Setaria, Themeda,
Solanum, Hermannia, Senecio and Indigofora.
Perennial geophyte of 10 cm high, with tuber up to 40 cm deep in soil. Leaves
opposite, simple,greyish green, leaf margins dentate. Flowers solitary in leaf
axils, corolla trumpet-shaped, about 6 cm long, corolla lobes maroon. Fruit a
many-hooked capsule.
