Origin: Grown from accession PI 489701 from USDA-GRIN, pedigree 1150. Seeds originally collected in Mexico on Feb 3rd 1980, received by USDAin May 1984 from RJ Knight, donor number K801-4. Collection details: "Mexico, Chiapas, MunicipioTuxtla la Chica, Izapa, by path through Cacao plantation, growing in warm lowland location. Plant resembles S. quitoense, plant thorny, 1.5m tall; fruits round, deep orange, sweet, about 2.5cm in diamter. Seeds reniform, bright green Wild. Seed". Vouchers of the NSF PGRP (IOS-2216612) Solanum Pan- Genome Project, genome name Squi2. Shrub with semi woody stems, 2m tall; leaves and stem covered in fine hairs and larger prickles; leaves with purple venation; corolla white, anthers yellow; fruits hairy (fuzzy), orange, around 5 cm in diameter.
