Square-stemmed, branching, pubescent herb, up to 60 or more cm. tall. Leaves oppo-
site, deeply divided into lanceolate, toothed lobes, long petiolate. Flowers about 12 mm.
long, red or purplish, sessile, numerous, in compact, whorled, axillary clusters, calyx lobes
aristate-tipped.
Occasional along roadsides and in waste areas (9683). English name,
motherwort.
