  • Georeferencing Method

    Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Could not locate the specified caves near the town of Ponta da Tulha; instead, georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the town of Ponta da Tulha, in Mun. Ilhéus, Bahia. Using Google Maps - Satellite View and Distance Measurement Tool, found the general location of the town of Ponta da Tulha by measuring 19 km along road BA-001 from the city of Ilhéus towards Serra Grande (north). Used Wikimapia and Google Maps - Street View to verify the location of the town of Ponta da Tulha. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approxiamte geographic center of the town. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find the linear extent by measuring the distance to the approximate geographic center of the nearest named place, the town of Sambaituba (-14.6563367 -39.1028282), and then halving that distance. input coordiantes, linear extent (4255.755 m), and measurement error (0.001 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Near a Named Place).
