FLORA OF TANZANIA Lis EUemann 331 Asteraceae Gutenbergia cordifolia Benth. ex Oliver Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Nasiporiong', Savanna woodland, treecover dominated by Acacia hockii. Burned in September 1992. Information by Peter Metele and Lekura Métele, Irmakaa-age group, Nasiporiong'. (35° 12’ E 3° 12’ S). Alt. 1800 m. Apr 13, 1993 Herb, flowers purple Maasai name: esirandét orkirrian (last part of the name refer to the dry seeds, which easily enter in the eyes) or naing'úng'undeyo (the ones smelled by mice, naing'o~ smell, deyo ~ mouse). Use: water extract of plant above ground is drunk for malaria to provoke vomiting as malaria is caused by to much bile, which can be reduced by vomiting. The medicine is so bitter, that people want to run away, when they hear it is prepared to them. Oloirago ole Mayanga, Aldarpoi: Used for malaria to provoke vomiting, one handfull of leaves is pounded and scrized in 1 litre of water and drunk. It is really bitter.
