Coastal dune with gentle E dope, well-drained soil of aeolian windblown sand of
tertiary seabed» Parital shade. Occasional, native. Reclaimed mined sand dunes
covered in dune forest with Acacia karoo, Brachylaena discolor, Laportea,
Achyropsis.
Annual to biannual hob, prostrate or up to 1 m high. Nodes of stem
conspicuously purplish-red. Leaves simple, opposite, leaf margins entire.
Flowers in spikes, small, and white. Fruit are spherical capsules, covered in
hooked spines, for animal dispersal.
