km west of Saunders Resort: 29° 2.927' S: 26° 25.069' E
Flats on plateau, in partial shade. Well-drained loam of sandstone-shale. Native
and occasional, pasture. Grassland and thicketwith Acacia karroo, Asparagus
laricinus, Hyparrhenia hirta, Bidens pinnata and Pentarrhinum insipidum.
Annual herb, 1.5 m high and lm in diam., roots relatively tuberous. Leaves
simple, opposite, hairy, dark green, cordate, leaf margins entire. Flowers in
terminal spike, small, tepals hard and spiny. Capsule enclosed in persistent
perianth.
