Kalomo District. Veg. Type S1 contact Habítete. Untidy, loose-crowned shrub, up to 15’, stems UD to 2" diam. at base. Bark mid-grey, ± rough at base with irregular loose flaked, smoother above. Some larger brans ohlets also rough with loose flakeé, áfila¿h-0B§bdaek MM«kr 0*2 mas.,. IB, pale pink-brown with thin darker streaks. Bran- ches heavily armed. Habitat Common in fire-scarred open savanna or sagaxma- woodland, frequently forming small thickets esp. in heavily fired or graxed areas - difficult to walk through. Growing here as dominant in dense thicket, with Securinega, Albizia amara. Lannea, Popowia, Pavetta aafcimilis, Dipl orhynchus mo- pane7 etc. in contact zone between mopane & tfmutemwaH oh * . red basalt clay with heavy quartz float. Ootl. W. R.
