In seepage below ground dam, in foil sun, seasonally waterlogged sandy clay
soil of Kalahari sand. Native and abundant. Grassland with Juncus rigidus,
Pentzia globosa, Eragrostis lehmanniana, Diplachne and Cirsium vulgare.
Perennial hemicryptophytic sedge, 1 m high. Hard, unpalatable sedge with stiff
lignacious culums. Leaves simple, glabrous, alternate, long, cylindrical with
spinose apex. Base of culms brown and arising from subterranean rhizome.
Inflorescence a globose head.
