Well-drained sandy gravel of granite-quartzite. Full sun. Native and common. Succulent Karoo with Euphorbia spp. Dracophilus, Mesembryanthemaceae and Codon. Perennial dwarf shrub up to 60 cm high. Leaves alternate, simple, scabrous and prickly, pale green, leaf margins dentate. Flowers solitary, petals creamy white, 5 linear sepals, enlarged around fruit, covered in prickly hair-like thorns.
