feat high or higher, with a 6 inch thick terete stem, in
red soil of a wooded benoh at 1Z&Q feet; wood watery white,
soft, without odor or teste, coarsely grained; bark smooth,
more or less mottled; limbs mostly at the top, the lower
ones long and freely rebranched toward the end, forming a
flattish crown; twigs lax, rather sx crooked, the younger
ones green; leaves coriaceous, shallowly folded upon the
upper very dark green surface, a trifle paler beneath, dip©
twisted and recurved; inflorescence axillary, subpendulous
from slender green stalks, few branched toward the top;
flower pendulous, the 5 perianth segments green; stamens 4,
yellowish green, the flattened filaments bearing small
hairy anthers; ovary green, bearing a thick, sessile and
similarly colored stigma; fruits ellipsoid, less than l/z
