Mountain slope in well-drained sandy loam soil of sandstone. In full sun on moderate slope. Common and native. Forest with Eugenia natalitia, Fauna saligna and Xymalos monospora. Tree, 15 to 20 m high, DBH 30-50 cm, stems with large hom-like spines. Petioles 8-10 cm long, with curved prickles. Leaves pinnately compound, alternate, glossy dark green, up to 30 cm long.
