In kloof along stream bank in stony, well-drained soil of black turf quartzite. In
shade on eastern slope of gorge forest and pasture. Occasional and native.
Savanna. Celtis africana, Acacia robusta and Rhus pyroides.
Shrub, 3 m high and DBH 4 cm. Stem with prickles. Bark smooth, greyish-
brown. Leaves pinnately compound, dark green, glabrous, strongly aromatic,
citrus-like.
