On gentle hill slope, in pasture, in fall sun, in well-drained soil of sandstone sand
and loam. Native and common. Grassland with Eragrostis, Digitaria, Conyza.
Perennial geophytic herb of 25cm with a rootstock. Leaves simple, hairy,
alternate, greyish green, margins entire. Stipules present. Inflorescence an
umbel. Flowers dark maroon. Fruit a shizocarp.
