Description
Medium size tree in a moist stone gravely soil of wood bank along Pauala river at 1500 feet; stem 1 1/2 foot thick, 40 feet high, terete, branched from the middle; branches horizontally spreading, the ultimate ones numerous and lax and somewhat drooping; coriaceous leaves descending, shiny deep green above, glaucus beneath, folded upon the upper side and with recurved tips; infrutescence lateral on the branchlets in small groups, upon 1-3 inches long, sparingly branched stalks, greenish yellow, subglobose, or short ellipsoid; nut with bright red meat sunken into its nut-meg-like groves (grooves?); wood moderately hard, reddish, more or less burly, odorless, bitterish; bark yellowish grey, smoothish.
