Polyalthia rumphii (Bl.) Merr.
Det. By:
Field Char: Large canopy tree with narrow crown
and strongly ascending branches; leaves
chartaceous, sparse (newly flushed), light
yellow-green both surfaces; numerous flowers,
cauline, perianth yellow-green.
Notes: No fruits. A common species, many
individuals in leaf drop condition and
flowering profusely.
Locality: East Sepik province; forest along the
main streamcourse of the Sitipa river; near the
village of Gahom.
Habitat: Tall-statured alluvial forest with
open understory, stands periodically
flooded by storm surges from the
Sitipa river; substrate of gravel and
silt.
