  • Description

    stem 1 1/2 inch thick, terete but crooked, occasionally branched, flexible; wood soft, bitter, yellow, odorless, with prominent radiant rows; bark smooth, yellowish white mottled; branches slender, green, drooping more or less, arising from thickened portions of the stem;, petiole green, swollen and darker green at both ends, at the base usually twisted and ascending,;, blades (descending, subcharteaeous, tips recurved, shining deep green above, much paler beneath; inflorescence pendulous from the branches, stems or leaf-axils, yellowish green, the buds just prior to anthesis deep yellow, flowers pale green and somewhat odorous; "Alebodra". The natives use the leaves for head-pads when they have headache; the wood-pulp for internal applications to relieve stomach troubles.
