  • Collector(s)

    W. H. Camp E1371, 17 Nov 1944-05 Dec 1944

  • Location

Ecuador. Santiago-Zamora. ("Oriente"): Cordillera Cutucú" East-trending slope from top of ridge down toward the Itzintza.

  • Description

Plants 1.5-2 m. Leaves deep green above, the veins raised; pale below. Bracts pale cream-green, the margin usually reddish. Corolla plae cream, very gibbous at throat in bud. Plants just beginning to come into flowering season. Note: 1371 and 1372 have all the appearance of being quite distinct species. 1370 may be a simple hybrid, but is probably a completely fertile allopolyploid, as the various characters of the parents do not seem to segregate as in a hybrid population. In places the yellow-flowered intermediate (No. 1370) was very common, and in some places the dominant form; at other places on this slope it was absent in other places; in other places all three were seen together. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
