Cerrado woodland, but almost all plants native in region. With
Curatella americana, Acrocorriia aculeata, Attalea speciosa.
Small gnarled tree 6 m. tall, 35 cm. in diameter; bark finely
flaky. Flowers (petals and stamens) on ground (7:00 A.M.),
each flower only open for a single night; exposed outer part of
petal reddish; inner side of petals and filaments pale yellow;
anthers yellow; the 5 styles remain on the flower after the
petals and stamens fall, slightly darker in color than the
filaments and exceeding the stamens in length. Fruit fallen to
ground, green, usually 1-seeded, always somewhat irregular, a
few 2-lobed and then with 2 seeds; pulp light yellow, almost
like that of Persea americana; seed bright yellow.
