The New York Botanical Garden Plants of BOLIVIA Caryocaraceae Caryocar brasiliense Cambess. det. M. Nee, 2011 DEPTO. SANTA Cruz, Prov. Guarayos, vie. Balneario Itapemi, 3.75 km SSW of plaza central of Ascención de Guarayos. 15°55’22”S, 63°10’24”W. alt. 243 m. Cerrado woodland, but almost all plants native in region. With Curatella americana, Acrocorriia aculeata, Attalea speciosa. Small gnarled tree 6 m. tall, 35 cm. in diameter; bark finely flaky. Flowers (petals and stamens) on ground (7:00 A.M.), each flower only open for a single night; exposed outer part of petal reddish; inner side of petals and filaments pale yellow; anthers yellow; the 5 styles remain on the flower after the petals and stamens fall, slightly darker in color than the filaments and exceeding the stamens in length. Fruit fallen to ground, green, usually 1-seeded, always somewhat irregular, a few 2-lobed and then with 2 seeds; pulp light yellow, almost like that of Persea americana; seed bright yellow. Coll.: M.
