Habitat
Foothills. Steep slope of ravine. Southwestern Mojave Desert, open chapparal with grazing history, with shrubs, including Ephedra spp., Sphaeralcea ambigua, Purshia tridentata. On red sandstone, gravelly-loam soil.

Description
Male. Young stems glaucous, "cones" yellow-green, immature; leaves in pairs; branch tops blunt, often with galls; older stems chalky grayish-white. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
