  • Description

    Tree 40 feet high with a 3 foot thick stem; stem obscurely buttressed at the base, branched above the middle; wood hard, tasteless and nearly odorless, whitish on the outside, turning duller toward the center; bark smoothish, mottled, brown on the branches and covered with pale white lenticells; branches ascending, crookedly rebranched, the twigs dull green and smooth; leaves chartaceous, ascendingly recurved, curvingly conduplicate on the upper much duller green surface, tips more strongly recurved; infrutescence terminal, upon the uppermost limbs, few to several 3 to 6 inches long spikes arising from the same twig; spikes ascending, grayish green; acorns plentiful upon short but distinct stalks, ¾ inch across, dome-shaped or short; ovoid crop grayish green; "Ulayan".
