    in damp fertile soil of humid woods.

  • Description

    Trees 60 to 70 feet high; stem 3 feet thick; wood dull white, with brown streaks throughout, heavy; hard, tough; bark brown, mottled, longitudinally lenticelled; crown widely spreading, the main branches rigid; leaves chartaceous, descending, curvingly conduplicate on the upper deep green side, tips recurved, beneath dull ashy gray; inflorescence erect, terminal, yellowish; wood tasteless but with a distinct sourish smell-like sour dough. "Ulayan".
