  • Description

    Medium sized tree stem 1 foot thick, terete except the wadded base, more or less crooked, 30 feet high, branched toward the top and forming a dense flattish crown; twlgs numerous, greenish, ascending; leaves subchartaceous, a trifle descending, curvingly folded upon the upper, shining deep or dark green surface, duller green beneath; inflorescence terminal, ascending, the main stalks green, the pedicels yellowish, perianth sulphureus, stamineus flavus, style of the same color, ovary greenish; flowers odorless, wood moderately soft, white on the outside, roseus for the balance, rather light, odorless, slightly bitter; bark thick, gray and white mottled, smooth or densely lenticelled, stropurpureus except the epidemis.
