    Perennial herbs. Leaves few to several arising from a deep seated fleshy root, well clothed toward the base by dirty marcescent bracts, the lower slender portion compressed; the linear blade coriaceous, plicate, ascending and recurved toward the ends, slightly paler beneath, very smooth; fruits erect, in the leaf axils usually, terete, fusiform, shining, nearly 1 inch long; corolla ? tips yellowish;.
