Description
Stems 3 to 5 m long; fruiting head upon very short stout bracteate peduncles arising from the rootstocks or from the bulbose stem base ovoid or subglobose, 2 to 3 inches thick, dull reddish, horny and bearing the rigid persistent similarly colored calyx. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
