Habitat
In wet alluvial soil of jungle forests near the humid lagoon.

Description
Spreading shrub; stem several inches thick, subterete, crooked, 15 feet high or less, branched from below the middle; wood, sappy white, soft, without taste or odor, with a large pith; bark surface smooth and grayish-brown, castaneous otherwise; main branches ascending, freely branched toward the top; twigs ascending, green, bristly red hairy; leaves horizontal or descending, flat, submembranaceous, deep green above, much lighter beneath, the veins yellowish-green; inflorescence erect, terminal, covered with similar hairs, especially the calyx; petals rose-red or rather light pink.
