USSR. (Region of LAKE BAIKAL) Poa dahurica Trin. Desert steppe with loose coarse sandy to gravelly bare "soil," rarely with open grass cover (Stipa orientalis, Agropyron cristatum, A. sp., Poa dahurica, Carex spp., Festuca, Iris spp., Cymbaria dahurica, and many Astragalus spp. and Oxytropis spp.). b) Cliffs and outcrops of decomposing granite, quartzite, or green feldspar, etc. in steppe on slopes and bluffs NE of Aya Bay, with Caragana pygmaea, Orostachys spinosa, Arenaria meyeri, Selaginella spp., and many crustose lichens. Treeless, heavily-grazed, coastal hills and bluffs of the "Tazheranskaya Steppe," an arid zone along LAKE BAIKAL at Bukhta Aya (AYA BAY), 158 km NE of mouth of Angara River. 52°47'N, 106°37'E Alt. 460-650m Precip. ca. 170-200mm H.
