On rocky limestone desert slopes in desert scrub. With Grayia spinosa, Salazaria mexicana, Salvia spp, Penstemon palmeri, Purshia, Cowania, Prunus fasciculata, Coelogyne, Yucca and Opuntia spp, Ferocactus, Thamnosma, Tetradymia and Ephedra spp, etc. Abundant.
