Richland Center.
43° 18’29”N, 90°19’43”W. alt. 250 m.
T 10 N; R 1 E; NW'/aNW'^ sect. 36.
Near base of W-facing slope of small valley, over upper
Cambrian sandstone, soil deep, somewhat sandy. Former
pasture and much gullied when this pine plantation
established in 1962 as a 4-H project.
Tree 35 m. tall, 60 cm. in diameter (both measured).
Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw,
MEXUw, RSAw, USZw 582, Penn State, the wood
specimen from upper trunk 13 cm. in diameter, at 30 m.
above the ground. Vigorous thick twigs from uppermost,
unshaded part of canopy, with female strobili arching-
spreading, to open this spring, the leaves relatively stiff and
upward-pointing, obviously glaucous-lined. Thin twigs
from heavily shaded branches at 20 m. above the ground,
within the plantation, the leaves much more slender,
spreading, only slightly glaucous.
