  • Description

    Multiple-trunked tree to 6 m., main trunk 30 cm. diam., DBH of main branches 10-15 cm. Bark greyish green with numerous white pustular lenticels. Slash deep pea-green (with garden pea odour). Wood creamish. Calyx yellow tinged green at base. Petals yellow, 'standard' with central scarlet-orange blotch. Flowers laterally compressed (as in Caesalpinia exostemma). Filaments green, anthers yellow. Young fruit green, eglandular. Mature fruit fawn-straw-coloured. Seeds flat, yellow. Small red--beaked humming bird visitng flowers at 4 PM in bright sunshine, splitting 'standard' down centre with beak to obtain nectar. Woon and seed sample. Flowers in FAA. Buds in glacial acetic acid. Three lumps of resin collected from damaged bark. Duplicates: FCME, FHO, K, MEXU. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
